Hello, I'm Scott Smith and for the sake of this blog you can call me Johnny. :-)
A bit about me!
I live in a suburb of Louisville, KY with three kids, two dogs and an evil cat. I grew up during the early years of the personal computer revolution. My father had the foresight to buy me a computer when I was ten and the patients to sit with me endless evenings typing code from the back of Compute Gazette. I have been programming ever since.
The above image is of the very first Compute Gazette I received when I was eleven years old.
What is my blog all about?
My blog serves as an outlet for some of my thoughts. Not all of my thoughts of course, some thoughts are never meant to see the light of these pages nor the gracious comments from the readers. I enjoy the occasional debate and need perspective on my ideas. I am not naturally empathetic to others views so I need them spelled out to me sometimes. Note that I said empathetic not sympathetic, very big difference. The definition of empathy is a "vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another".
Why the name "Johnny Can't Code"?
My oldest son is ten years old. My father had tremendous insight when I was ten to buy me a computer that started me down my lifetime career path and I wanted to attempt the same feat for my son, so I started searching the web for the next big thing. Of course, I would like for my son to follow in his father's footsteps and take up a profession in the computer field and since he has divulged an interest I felt obligated to help him as my dad helped me. When I began looking for the right approach to introduce my son to computer programming I came across several articles about why "Johnny can't code" and thought it would make a good title for my blog.
